Executive Director
Julia H. Price, M.A., has served as Executive Director of Sierra
Dove since 2002. She has worked concurrently as a Regional
Coordinator for the New Mexico Collaboration to End Hunger
since 2007, and created Eating Smart as a pilot program for the
statewide effort to reduce food insecurity for children in
economically deprived circumstances. She developed the
programming and teacher training manuals for the ALPHA Effect
and Eating Smart and currently serves as Program Director for
these two initiatives.
After acquiring a BA and MA in English Literature with Honors,
Julia taught literature and writing at the high school and university
levels from 1973-1993. During this time, she developed
interdisciplinary literacy programs for both intermediate and
secondary schools. Her textbook Reflections: A Thematic Reader
(Houghton-Mifflin), co-authored with William Barnwell, is an
outgrowth of the years during which she taught literature classes
at the University of New Orleans.

Mr. John McPhee, Coordinator of the Childhood Injury Unit for the New Mexico Department of Health
is also the New Mexico representative for the National SAFE KIDS Campaign and the Consumer
Product Safety Commission. Mr. McPhee is a contributing editor to the "Healthy Environments and
Living Spaces" curriculum, published in 2001 with an EPA grant. He is also a contributing editor to the
"Improving the Safety of Child Care Environments" curriculum for daycare providers, published in 2002.
The Honorable J.D. Roehrig, Chairman of the Sierra Dove Board of Directors, currently sits as
the Municipal Judge for the Village of Capitan, New Mexico. Due to his elected post, Judge Roehrig is
a strong advocate for family literacy and education. Retired from service with the US Army, he serves
as the Organizations Representative and Chairman and continues to support his community and public
outreach programs through his philanthropic work and various posts and commitments to organizations
and boards, such as the Leadership Board for Cub Scout Pack 57, and Chairman and Executive Board
Member of American Legion Post 57. He is a Member of the Capitan Lions Club.
Dr. Bruce Klinecole, has a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Parker School of Chiropractic and a
Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board. Dr. Klinecole has been practicing for over 14
years in Ruidoso. He grew up in Mescalero, New Mexico and is a member of the Mescalero Apache
Tribe. Dr. Klinecole is active in fund raising and community engagement for Eating Smart.
Jozef Dominguez, Vice-Chairman, is a writer and child rights advocate who is a cofounder of our
educational non-profit organization. In March 2003, the Ford Foundation, in association with the
Advocacy Institute of Washington, D.C., recognized Mr. Dominguez for his ingenuity, effectiveness, and
high degree of commitment to responding to challenging social problems. He continues his efforts on
behalf of youth in disadvantaged circumstances through the ongoing Sierra Dove projects.
Elizabeth Byars, Treasurer, is the Owner of The Wild Herb Market in Ruidoso, NM. Ms. Byars has
studied and taught the essentials of nutrition for thirty years. One of her primary areas of focus at
present is educating parents on the importance of balanced nutrition and the role it plays in providing
families with the physical, emotional and mental support necessary for improved health, mental clarity
and the overall development of their children.
Ms. Marsha Keown, Secretary, has worked in the field of education since receiving her BA in
Education from Western Washington University in 1972. She has taught numerous workshops in the
category of self-help. She currently serves as a substitute teacher at Ruidoso High School, as well as an
instructor in the Community Education Department of Eastern New Mexico University.
Rosemary Cascio,a local business woman, is the proprietor of The Ruidoso Herb Stop, and she is
one of the state's two herbal pharmacists. Since she was a small girl, she has had a deep passion for
plants and herbs and for learning about their medicinal properties in order to help others. She continues
her work through The Herb Stop, and teaches classes on natural medicines there, as well as at ENMU
and in other areas of the state.

Ann Crystal, Administrative Director
Ann Crystal is a valued member of Sierra Dove Global Association. She serves as an Administrative
Director, contributing to our educational community outreach programs.
Patsy Blasdell, Program Coordinator
Patsy Blasdell is a trained facilitator and consultant of the auditory training methods used in the ALPHA
Literacy program. She is a registered nurse licensed within the state of New Mexico with over 25 years
experience in the field of Obstetrics. Patsy is also a professional artist with more than thirty years of
experience with a particular interest in working with children with special needs. Patsy contributes her
knowledge of auditory training, nursing skills, experience with art, and her love of children to the ALPHA
Literacy program, Art and Literacy Encounter and Eating SmART. As program coordinator, Patsy has
worked closely with teachers, parents and children to ensure projects provide a safe, healthy, happy
environment.

Carrie Calkins, Community Outreach Program Assistant
Carrie Calkins served for over six years as a Residential Assistant and Youth Advocate to adults with
mental and physical disabilities and also worked with mothers and their babies in treatment for
substance abuse. She taught independent daily living skills, transported clients, provided active
treatment, taught and helped each client to clean and maintain a safe environment in their homes,
assisted in budgeting and finance, supervised employees, performed disaster drills and worked with
persons needing wheelchair, van, and gait belt assistance. Carrie holds many state licensed
certificates towards the care of individuals with special needs.
Kelly Noble, Community Outreach Program Assistant
Kelly Noble brings to Sierra Dove her years of dedication and experience working with many diverse
cultural groups in the state of Washington and currently in the rural communities of Southwestern New
Mexico. Kelly incorporates her passion for animals with her love of the elderly and children to contribute
to our outreach programs.
Shelly Brack, Volunteer Coordinator, operates the Art Connection at 1703 Sudderth Drive in Ruidoso,
NM, and spearheads volunteer opportunities for art classes and community events at the center. With a
fifteen year background in expressive arts, Shelly offers support and encouragement to children and
adults, by teacheing creative art workshops. Before moving to New Mexico, Shelly also served as
Volunteer Coordinator for Arts in the Making in Seattle, where she directed art projects in homeless
shelters.
